Sometimes The Most High allows us to be abased, and sometimes He allows us to abound.
Neither season is without purpose.
There may be lessons we can only receive when life becomes quiet, uncomfortable, or uncertain. There may be patience, wisdom, humility, or understanding that we would not have been receptive to while everything was plentiful.
And there may be gifts that require us to have learned those lessons before they can safely be placed in our hands.
So perhaps the work is not always trying to escape abasement or constantly striving for abundance. Perhaps the work is becoming the kind of person who can receive what The Most High is teaching in either season—and who can be trusted with His gifts when they come.
To be abased. To abound. And to remain receptive in both.
